Public schools in the county are run by Dawson County Schools: four elementary schools (Black’s Mill, Kilough, Riverview and Robinson), Dawson County Middle School, Dawson County Junior High and Dawson County High School.
Where the secondary schools are
Dawson County High School is at 1665 Perimeter Road, the middle school at 5126 Hwy 9 South and the junior high at 109 Allen Street, all in Dawsonville.
Registering a student
The district registers new students centrally and asks for two proofs of Dawson County residency: a lease, deed, mortgage statement or settlement statement, plus a recent utility bill. Your closing settlement statement counts.
Which school serves an address
Attendance depends on the address. Before you make an offer, ask the district office (28 Main Street, 706-265-3246) which schools serve the exact address. A home in the Pickens County part of Big Canoe is in Pickens County schools, so confirm the county first.
School taxes
The school levy is 10.8 mills, about two-thirds of a typical bill, according to the county commission chairman. The estimator shows it line by line.
